Jajangmyeon or Zha Jiang Mian, Seoul.

12.02.2009 @ Coex Mall @ chinese restaurant, Seoul. Me & Mom, dinner with our family friend Kim Hee Sun at a Chinese Restaurant at Coex Mall.

I have been looking forward to try this noodle for so long, this is all because i have been watching too much Korean dramas eating Jajangmyeon! :) I was so keen to try the real Jajangmyeon in Korea myself and its a dream come true! I requested Hee Sun to bring me to the best in the city. So there she bring us to this Chinese Restaurant in Coex Mall. The portion is big and generous.

I got this from the Jajangmyeon wikipedia. Jajangmyeon is a popular Korean dish, derived from the Chinese dish zha jiang mian. It consists of wheat noodles topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced meat and vegetables, and sometimes also seafood. Jajang (also spelled jjajang), the name of the sauce, is the Korean pronunciation of the Chinese characters , which literally means "fried sauce." Myeon (also spelled myun) means "noodle."

According to Hee Sun, korean celebrates every 14th in the calender. On this particular date, the 14th April, they called it a "Black Day" in korea. On the 14th April, those who are single and not in a relationship meet and they eat Black Noodle ( jajangmyeon ) together. :)

Let me explain more about the noodle, the noodle texture is thick made from white wheat flour. The noodles, which are made entirely by hand and not by machines. The sauce is made with a dark soybean paste called chunjang (hangul: 춘장; Chinese: ). The paste, which is made from roasted soybeans and caramel, is called chunjang (literally "spring paste") when unheated, while the heated sauce (containing vegetables and meat or seafood) is called jjajang (literally "fried sauce"). Chunjang is stir-fried with diced onions, ground meat (either beef or pork) or chopped seafood, and other ingredients. When cooking the sauce, usually meat stock is added to reduce the salty taste of cooked chunjang, andpotato starch or cornstarch is added to give the sauce a thick consistency. The sauce is served hot over noodles, sometimes with sliced raw cucumbers.

If u wish to understand more about the noodle, search jajangmyeon wikipedia.

Tuaran Chicken Rice Restaurant, Sabah

Ice Nescafe / Nescafe Ping!

Delicious Watan Ho.

Not so delicious Tuaran Mee. Sorry to say but Tuaran Tai Fatt Restaurant served the best
fried tuaran mee especially the stir-fried wet tuaran mee with beef.

03.05.2011 - Tuaran Chicken Rice Restaurant @ Tuaran, Sabah. ( located abot 45 mins drive from KK )

The 2nd time here and it was a disappointment to all from food to services. seems like we are the earliest customers that day. we we ordered 2 plates of the authentic Tuaran fried mee both seafood and a plate of Watan ho seafood for mom. 2 plates of Tuaran mee came out with one wrong order.  I ordered seafood and came out with chicken, thats not it, the fish fillet they used was a smelling fishing and spoiled. Talking about the taste of the famous tuaran noodle.  I have been eating Tuaran Noodle for my whole life, this plate of fried Tuaran Noodle definitely not up to my expectation!  is not that im fussy but i know how's the real delicious tauran taste like.  I have been eating tuaran for my whole childhood life to adult in Tuaran for about 20years.  That plate of tuaran mee they served me, had non of that "wok" aromatic smell, can't smell the noodle, definitely a bad dish.

Tuaran Mee such an important and famous dish that represent Tuaran District.  well, not only represent tuaran district.  almost most of the tourist will be recommended to try tuaran noodle even in KK area.  I hope the noodle will always be cooked with that standard consistency like Tai Fatt restaurant (non halal restaurant, where i found the BEST fried tuaran noodle in tuaran town that no others could beat them ).

No more Tuaran Noodle for me at this restaurant for sure, there are plenty of good and delicious fried Tuaran mee around Tuaran Town. so, i will not be back for more, thats for sure. My order of nescafe gau2 kurang manis came out with just a normal nescafe not "gau" enough. However, the watan ho wasn't bad at all, very yummy indeed! is one of my favourite dish of all time. The whole meal cost RM20.20

Dinner at Pondok Sedap, The Mall Brunei

01.05.2011 @ Pondok Sedap The Mall foodcourt, 3rd floor. Gadong Brunei. For a quick dinner, we prefer to go to the Mall foodcourd at Pondok Sedap for the Ayam Bakar & Tom Yam Soup, last but not least my favourite Pulut Panggang.

Pondok Sedap offers some delicious Malay, Chinese or Thai style cooking on the menu, i would say the famous dish so far is the Ayam Bakar that people always coming back for. You would almost see all the customers go for Ayam Bakar.

We had the Ayam Bakar several times here, but on my last experienced. I wasn't quite satisfied with the chicken meat, it was a little too tough, before i say it was their fault, it could be my fault too that i might have left it on the table too long till cold. well, what can i do,have to feed my precious first before i can dive in to indulge myself. Overall the chicken taste not so bad, but not so good either, oh.....not to mention the chili deep. It was so super spicy. i have to take break while eating the chicken. It might be not a problem for chili lovers like my husband. The Tom Yam soup too a little too spicy, but it taste good.

I love the most is the Pulut Panggang. It was so delicious. i don't mind to go only for pulut panggang. the best in town so far, taste and quality about the same like the famous mabohai flat pulut panggang but the banana leaf is a little too oily. I would give thumbs up to mabohai flat pulut panggang, its not oily at all from the outside.

We always go for Tea-C Special, they served with a big mug. Its so satisfying. :) my hubby favourite.

Breakfast @ Mei Kong Cafe, Bandar, Brunei

Porridge

Kolomee with Roasted Chicken

Beef Bulalo

01.05.2011 @ Mei Kong Cafe, Bandar Seri Begawan. Mei Kong Cafe located in the middle of the town just next to Big Papa's. It has been established almost 60 years ago. Open its door 365 days from early morning till past office hours.

Mei Kong Cafe used to be our every sunday favourite place for kolomee or chicken rice 4 years ago as it located just a walking distance or by car from the previous Sheraton Hotel ( now Radisson Hotel ) to the town. Since we have left Brunei for good year 2007, our list of considering the BEST kolomee and chicken rice would be forever remembered, never in our life would expect a dream come true to be in Brunei again, but yes, this is not a dream, we really moving back to Brunei again. We are glad to get a second chance to fully enjoy our so called BEST kolomee again for life!

However, with our surprise during our first visit to Mei Kong. The cafe has so much changes! we discover that no more roasted chicken hanging on the food counter from the food that we used to know, but something new to us, is that the smell of beef soup and variety of Filipino food display at the food counter. I asked one of a familiar staff who i recognized her from many years with this cafe was saying to me that only every Sunday they offers a luscious Filipino food mainly cater for Filipino customers from Sunday church. The food do look tempting and delicious.

so on this particular sunday, my hubby thought of trying the soup tulang or i should say its the Filipino Beef Bulalo ( beef bone marrow soup ). Me stick to my favourite kolomee and a chicken porridge for my son. I have no comment on my kolomee, its forever delicious! :) yum yum !! and the soup was flavourful too as well as the porridge was good.

Mei Kong also served a variety of delicious food on the menu and pictures on the wall to choose from any kind of chinese style, nyonya cooking with rice to dimsum & many daily homemade desserts drinks.

Aqil Shafiee Thai Food Restaurant, Jerudong Brunei

Mango Fish Fillet

TOm Yam Soup

Papaya Salad

Stirfried Beef with Basil

07.05.2011 @ Aqil Shafiee Thai Food Restaurant, Jerudong. Brunei. One of the many thai food restaurant that offer some delicious authentic Thai cuisines. Tonight is the Mother's Day Eve....so i expected to be packed with diners and it was so true. This is our 2nd time here and as always every table full of customers, service staff are super busy in and out.

Order my favourite dishes, the Som Tom- the Papaya Thai salad, Tom Yam Kung, Mango Fish Fillet & Stir-fried beef with Green Capsicum & Thai sweet basil, we have lime juice, apple juice & hot tea.

Food was great but i was little disappointed with the fish fillet quality. Its a little too hard and chewy. I should stick to my first choice of having the whole fish instead of fillet!! i wonder what happen to the fillet? it wasn't fresh or it has been fried and kept too long ... i suggested that whoever order the meant to be whole fish dishes, don't go for fish fillet. Whole fish always satisfying. Its my first time with fillets though.... cos I thought of having a big whole fish for two person is a little too much for that night.
